About Ilma

What is Ilma?

Ilma tells you when the next weather forecast is out. It lists weather models and marine radio broadcasts, shows when each one updates in your timezone, and shows on a map what covers your area. It is for sailors, skippers, weather routers and anyone who downloads forecasts at sea or on the coast.

Is Ilma a weather forecast?

No. Ilma does not predict the weather. It shows when forecasts from the weather services and models are published, so you can fetch the new one as soon as it is available. Use the forecasts themselves, and your own judgement, to decide what to do on the water.

Who runs Ilma?

Ilma is run by Sailibre. Company details and contact information are on the Contact page.

Which models and stations are included?

Global, regional, wave, ocean and ensemble models, plus NAVTEX, VHF, MF and HF coast radio, HF radiofax and public radio weather broadcasts. The catalog keeps growing, and its source list is on the Data sources page.

Something is missing or wrong. What can I do?

Please tell us. Corrections and missing models or stations are welcome through the Contact page. Every radio entry lists its sources so a correction is easy to check.

Times and data

How accurate are the times?

Times are the expected publication times of each model run. Real publication can be a few minutes early or late, and providers sometimes change their schedules. A time marked ≈ is an estimate. Always treat the provider's own page as the final word.

Which timezone are the times in?

Your own, by default. Use the clock at the top of any page to switch to UTC or any other timezone, and to choose a 12 or 24 hour clock. Radio broadcast times are published in UTC or local time by the broadcaster, and Ilma converts them for you.

Can I rely on Ilma for safety at sea?

Ilma is an aid for planning, not a safety system. Radio frequencies and times change, and ranges are approximate. Check official sources and the relevant notices to mariners before you rely on any broadcast, and carry your own backups.

What do the circles on the map mean?

For radio stations, a circle shows the area a station is meant to serve or the range of its transmitter, where that is known. It is a guide, not a guarantee of reception: weather, time of day and your equipment all matter. For HF radiofax the faint circle shows the area its charts roughly cover.

Accounts and alerts

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse the catalog, the radio stations, the map and Learn without one. A free account adds your own dashboard, the full timeline and map, extra timezones and settings saved on your account.

What do I get with a free account?

Your own dashboard, every model on the timeline, all map layers, extra timezones, a personal calendar feed and your settings saved on every device. The Pricing page has the full comparison.

Do alerts really get sent?

Not yet. You can set up alerts and they are saved on your account, but nothing is sent yet. Delivery is planned.

What do you know about me?

Without an account, your choices stay in your browser. With an account we store your email, name and settings. The Privacy and Cookies pages explain what is stored and how to delete it.

Payment and pricing

Is Ilma free?

Yes. Everything on the site is free today, and nothing is charged. A free account is free as well.

Is the API free?

No. API access is planned as part of the Pro plan. Browsing the site and the calendar feeds stay free. Pro is not open yet, so the API is in preview for now.

How much will Pro cost?

The planned price is €29 a month or €249 a year, which saves about 28% compared with paying monthly. Pro is not open yet, so nothing is charged today. The Pricing page always has the current price.

How will I pay?

Payments are not open yet. When they open, they will be handled by an external payment provider. The accepted payment methods, taxes and the cancellation and refund terms will be published on the Pricing page.

Can I cancel?

The cancellation and refund terms will be part of the Terms of Service before anyone is charged.
